Severn Estuary Forum 2010

The Severn Estuary Partnership is pleased to announce the attendance of Steve Brooker, Head of Marine Planning for the Marine Management Organisation at the 2010 Severn Estuary Forum. The Forum will be held at Armada House Bristol on the 8th October 2010. A full programme and booking form will be available online and in the Summer edition of Severn Tidings. An electronic notification will be circulated when arrangements are finalised and booking is open. Planning for the Severn Estuary

On Monday 21st June 2010, the Severn Estuary Partnership in conjunction with the European IMCORE project, RTPI Cymru and RTPI South West hosted a planning for the Severn Estuary Conference in Bristol. The event brought together organisations and individuals to hear about new developments in marine and coastal planning and to discuss the implications of climate change for planning in coastal areas. Launch of Marine Management Organisation

On the 15th June 2010 The Marine Management Organisations (MMO) official launch in Newcastle was cited as a turning point for sustainable use of our seas.

The new delivery body has been operating since April and was formally launched today in the North East, bringing together responsibilities that include implementing a new marine planning and licensing system to balance environmental, social and economic needs.

EDF Hinkley Point C Consultation

Public consultation on EDF Energy's 'Preferred Proposals' for Hinkley Point C has started and will run throughout the summer and early autumn, closing on 4 October 2010. Full details of the 'Preferred Proposals' are available to download from the Public Documents page. Environment Agency Coastal Handbook

The Environment Agency has recently published The Coastal Handbook, A guide for all those working on the coast. The handbook brings together the information most relevant to coastal practitioners planning or undertaking work on the coast. This is the second edition of the Coastal handbook and it has been updated and expanded as part of a collaborative project between the Environment Agency and Local Authorities. The Coastal Handbook

Wales Coastal Maritime Partnership

The Wales Coastal Maritime Partnership met on Tuesday the 29th of June at the Maritime Museum in Swansea. They discussed a number of topics, including the potential role of partnerships in implementing marine spatial planning. For more information, please see the WCMP website.

Beacons/Yocco Project Steering Group

The Beacons/Yocco Project Steering Group met for the first time on Monday the 5th of July at the Environment Centre in Swansea. The group confirmed that the project plan could proceed and confirmed general themes and topics for inclusion in workshops, the website and education pack.
