Background of Organisation
A Multi-purpose Local Unitary Authority responsible for the historic City and County of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
Organisational Objectives
Bristol City council has set six main aims to help to achieve the vision of establishing the regional capital of the south west as 'a successful European city, valuing diversity and offering prosperity and a good and sustainable quality of life for all its citizens'. These are:

- Promoting Health and Well being
- Strengthening Local Communities
- Delivering Value for Money
Relevant Policies, Projects & Activities
The New Council Department of Environment, Transport and Leisure is
responsible for many of available services and policies for Planning,
Traffic and Transport, Sustainable Development, Parks and Sports and
Cultural Services. The Sustainable Development Division provides and
heads a range of services and facilities ranging from from environmental
quality to pollution control and looks at Local Agenda 21 and its impact
on Bristol's environment. It also supports centers like CREATE
and Ecohome.
Moreover, the Development Plan for Bristol comprises the Structure Plan
and the Local Plan and sets the statutory context for the consideration
of planning applications. This was prepared in liaison with Bath and
North East Somerset Council, North Somerset Council , South Gloucestershire
Council. Further detailed advice on specific issues is contained in
Supplementary Planning Guidance prepared by Bristol City Council.
